On-Site Parenting Education Classes:

The Parent Resource Center programs are structured, not only to increase positive parenting skills to prevent child abuse, but also encourage parents to accept responsibility for themselves and their children. The program philosophy adheres to the old proverb, “ Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish and he will eat for the rest of his life.”

All on site parenting education classes utilize the “Bavolek Nurturing Program” written by Stephen J. Bavolek, Ph.D as the core of their curriculum. This curriculum is family-based with a proven track record of preventing child abuse and neglect. The “Bavolek Nurturing Program” is founded on building the quality of empathy in family members to promote personal empowerment, self-worth, non-violent discipline, age-appropriate expectations and compassion.  All parenting classes are a 16-weekl curriculum with open enrollment.

The Center provides unique support services for families who utilize the Family Resource Center, including:

  • Limited transportation to and from classes.
  • On-site childcare during class time.
  • Healthy Family MediCal for Children and Kaiser Permanente Child Health Plan application assistance for families seeking low cost medical coverage.
  • Differential Response
  • Mental Health Services
  • Family Literacy and GED Preparation Classes

Who can benefit from these programs?

  • First-time mothers who want to learn more about their pregnancy, changing body, delivery and newborn care
  • Pregnant women who desire labor and delivery support
  • Parents who need someone to talk to
  • Any parent who wants to make positive life changes
  • Mothers and fathers who want more information on positive child discipline
  • Young couples who need help in building a closer relationship within the family

The Center currently offers a variety of classes to meet the changing needs of our families. They include the following:

Labor and Delivery Support – On-going weekly labor and delivery parenting education classes offer young mothers information on anatomy, nutrition, the importance of prenatal care, childbirth education, breast feeding, child growth and development, basic parenting and avoiding unhealthy addictions. These prenatal education classes, combined with the in-home mentoring component, creates a powerful combination that ensures the greatest chances of a healthy pregnancy, successful delivery and strong mother/child bond. This class is held in Modesto.  Please see schedule of classes for locations, days and times.
